Laurie Campbell - 4 Nov 2010

For our very first 'event' we were privileged to have a presentation by Laurie Campbell, one of Scotland's leading natural history and landscape photographers. Laurie talked us through a selection of over 400 images taken throughout his photographic career. In a presentation which was always informative and often personal, Laurie gave us an insight into the dedication and commitment required to be a wildlife photographer of the highest calibre. Examples of his approach included spending several nights outside in sub-zero temperatures in a hide to capture shots of woodcock to camping on the Bass Rock to photograph gannets in a unique way.

His deep knowledge of wildlife and his passion for the natural world was evident throughout the show and this, coupled with his obvious mastery of both film and digital technologies, resulted in a series of fabulous images which captured the essence of many creatures in their natural habitats. Many of Laurie's photographs were taken locally and this illustrated the abundance of photographic opportunities which exist in the Borders. This was a truly special experience!! You can see more of Laurie's work on his website.

We were also delighted to welcome about 30 visitors from other camera clubs across the Eastern Borders. We hope they enjoyed their visit!
